The number 50 represents the number of artworks within this space. The spaces in which we live and experience life is where I find inspiration. From the open plains of Wyoming, to the intimate spaces created by the clutter on a counter–each space narrates a unique story. My goal as an observational painter and draftsman is not to reproduce a scene with photographic accuracy, but to express the light, mood, and emotional connection I experience within that moment. Painting and drawing from observation allows me to respond to the changing environment in real time, simplifying some elements while emphasizing others to reflect my personal interpretation. The result is a visual record not only of a place, but of how I chose to see it that day–an intimate connection to the spaces I inhabit.

My painting process begins with a limited palette of roughly four colors, each combination curated specifically for the scene, but drawn from a core set of eleven: Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cerulean Blue, Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, and Yellow Ochre. This constraint creates a stronger color harmony and encourages inventive color mixing. I use warm and cool color relationships to build convincing light and atmosphere, allowing the simplicity of color to give rise to an illusionistic reality of light and shadow. When creating a drawing I focus on line, mark-making, and value to create a unique translation of reality. I draw with a variety of inks: calligraphy pens, diluted India inks, sharpies, jelly roll pens, and any other mark making tool I can get my hands on. Through this approach, I offer you not just an image, but a reflection of my relationship with spaces–and the subject matter that continues to inspire my artistic passion.
